3rd-Oct-2008 04:10 pm - Eid Al-Fitr

Well this was my first year celebrating the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The fasting part of it sucked but I understand the significance of it and really tried my hardest to fast as much as I could without passing out. I think I might have lost a few pounds to (yay for me!). At any rate I attended the special Eid Al-Fitr prayer to celebrate the end of Ramadan on Wednesday in Kansas City with my friend Mubeena and her husband Tarik. Here's a couple of pics from the event, there was quite a few people there and it was almost like a big gathering as opposed to a religious event. Very upbeat and lots of people snapping pictures and talking. I was invited to a meal after prayer but unfortunately had to zoom back to my internship site. Next year I'll know to try and take the whole day off or at least half a day. At any rate the first two pictures are just pictures of the cacophony of colors that was in evidence on the women's side of the building (it was held in a large room at a local community college). Some of the outfits were just downright gorgeous and some of the women wearing them looked like they needed to be strutting their stuff down a runway. I had an insane urge afterwards to go shopping. Go fig. Then the next two pics are my friend Mubeena in a gorgeous bright blue outfit (she is SO pretty) and me in a more sedate black outfit. She was wearing a traditional Pakistani garb and I was dressed more like a Saudi (which is how my husband tends to dress as well when he wears traditional Muslim garb).

Here be the piccies under the fake cut.... )
