| I wrote two fics: Rio Bravo: My Three Good Companions. This is a post-movie story to showcase the wonderful camaraderie of the three main characters. Rio Bravo is a 1959 Western starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, and Walter Brennan. It's a little formulaic, but it's about the height of that genre. For classic Westerns, it doesn't get much better. I am always amazed at how much gets packed into each frame, how much good acting and directing there is. For example, the first five minutes of the film set up the action for the whole rest of the movie, and does so clearly and brilliantly without using any words at all. The audience simply doesn't need them. (Also, it is one of Wayne's many later films that works to counter racist stereotypes either subtly or blatantly. Wayne's only friend in town outside his deputies is the owner of the hotel, a short cheerful Hispanic man. Carlos shares the duty of comic relief with Walter Brennan, but in the shootout at the end he shows up to provide ammunition and covering fire while the white citizens of town hang back and watch from a distance as if this battle to protect them is merely an afternoon's entertainment.) Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles: Eudaimonia. I always loved the underlying philosophical questions of SCC, particularly between Ellison and John Henry, and this was a wonderful excuse to explore it, so I jumped on this pinch-hit as soon as I spotted it.

Star
Trek Mashups,
Crossovers, And Other Parodies: Somewhat
Censored Version
Happy 2010! It's time to start the new year off right (or, depending
on your perspective, wrong) with a bunch of Star Trek
mashups and other parodies. I crossposted this to the Battlestar
Galactica LJ group because it has some Galactica jokes.

| Happy new year. :) The Yuletide reveal is today, and I wanted to thank Horatio (theadmiral) for my lovely assigned story, and jasmasson, dotfic, and apocalypsos for the treats they wrote for me. Such wonderful surprises. :D :D As for me, I wrote four stories for Yuletide this year in four different fandoms (Mad Men, Iron Giant, Kings, and Band of Brothers). All are over 1000 words and are in the regular archive. I'll be reposting all of them here, over time. Broken Alphabet - Mad Men, 2,490 wds; gen (Peggy character study)Recipient: kyraficBeta by gwyn_r, and many thanks also to dotfic (for telling me about New York) and barkley (for helping me pick out the ads). Notes: Yes indeed, the ads I referenced in the story to help build the metaphor all actually exist. If you're curious, I'm posting them behind a cut-tag, below. All date from 1962-3. A Common Purpose - Band of Brothers, 1,729 words, gen (Lipton and Speirs, plus bonus Malarkey and Liebgott)Pinch hit for: sidrinBeta by dotfic and innie_darling. Notes: This was written to a very specific prompt on Christmas Eve, and it was fun writing gen for this fandom. My second BoB story! Very exciting. Finding Grace - Kings, 1,349 words, slash and het, semi-explicit David/Jack, non-explicit David/Michelle. Yuletide Madness gift for medieBeta by dotfic, teand, and innie_darling. Notes: I wanted to write something specifically for medie, and this gave me a perfect excuse to write Kings fic -- I completely loved the show, even if I did try not to get invested in it because I was sure it would be cancelled. Which it was. But I loved her prompt, and I wanted to explore the parallels between Silas's relationships and needs, and David's relationships and needs. We Live On In Legend - The Iron Giant, 1,767 words, futurefic, gen. Yuletide Madness gift for dotficBeta by innie_darling and teandNotes: a labor of love, pure and simple, because I <3 the movie, and I <3 dotfic. I wrote A Common Purpose, Finding Grace, and We Live On In Legend all on December 24 in a day-long writing spree the likes of which I have not had in years. And re the ads for Broken Alphabet - here they are. I found them all at this site (research is key!). It was interesting to study the gendered messages in the images. ( ads! ) | |

| Hi all! First of all, happy new year! You know, it just occurred to me: last night was a blue moon, meaning it was the 13th full moon of the year (usually there are only 12, one per month), right? So that's pretty unfortunate for any werewolves out there -- or for ones who don't like transforming, anyway... WOW, that's geeky, but I suppose if I'm going to be geeky about this stuff, this is the community to do it in... :D Anyway, with only a few days left till the premiere of series 2, that goofy CenSSA site has been updating like mad, so I just thought you might be interested to know that there are a few new posts over there, with pictures of ghosts ("type 2s") and stuff. And there's another video diary, too, about vampires, so check it out if you're interested. Let the countdown to series 2 begin! :D | |

| I just noticed that the Yuletide authors have been revealed, meaning that I can now post my end of the year fannish round-up. My stories for the ficathon were "Sanguine", a short The Mentalist ficlet, and "Enemy of My Enemy (My Friend)", a slightly longer Lyta/Ivanova story. When I say that I wrote these stories at the last minute, I mean it - I was reading the list of unfilled prompts on Christmas Eve, got a few plotbunnies, and then around midnight when all the gifts had been opened and everyone else at home was going to bed, I went to my room and just *wrote* until I had two finished stories. ...which both desperately need a beta, so any volunteers? And then the actual point of this post, the list of all the fannish things I've done this year - which turned out to be more than I thought I'd done, and with a larger variety of different fandoms than ever before: ( Fanfic )( Fanart )( Icons )( Misc )( Offline fandom ) | |

| http://scifiwire.com/2010/01/david-tennant-interviews.php What could be better than actor David Tennant, Doctor Who's the Doctor, interviewing the show's master re-imaginer, Russell T Davies? The two sat down and offered up a fascinating interview on BBC Radio 2 called Who on Who? With both Tennant and Davies bowing out of Doctor Who after this Saturday's finale special, "The End of Time: Part Two," it ended up being a very special conversation about all things Who, and some things Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
A couple big bits of news came out of the conversation. Both Davies and Tennant are headed for Hollywood, a big loss for British television. And The Sarah Jane Adventures has been picked up for a fourth "series" or season.
You can listen to the entire interview at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00pclt6. The link is available only until Tuesday, Jan. 5. Here's a sampling of their conversation. | |

| We're heading over to my folks' for the day (in a while) and overnight. I probably won't be around until sometime Saturday afternoon. | |

| Wow, no one has jumped on this yet? I guess everyone is still recovering from New Year's. www.roddenberry.com/community/index/detailI've been to DC the last two years and in all honesty the only Trek stuff I did last year was see Peter David's panel because he is probably one of the funniest people I've ever heard speak. Of course, I don't do waiting in line for hours and all that, especially since I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time. Anyway, Eric seemed arrogant to me, but not necessarily a bad guy, although I know a lot of people complained about him. I was just curious what everyone here thought. - Mood:curious

| Hi guys, I hope this is OK to post this! I was wondering if any of my fellow Australian Burn Notice fans know anything about the season 2 DVD release plans? I see it has been out forever in the US, and I need it! | |

| Started off the day (And the year) beautifully, by embracing my raging PMS and biting hubby's head off. He's been positively meek since then. Then I tried to find my promt on kinkme_merlin , but the tags on delicious were utterly unhelpful. *sigh* Thinking I had done something wrong with coding or something, I spent half an hour tracking it down, just to make sure it was still there. It was. Still unfulfilled. It's not even that kinky! I'll probably end up writing it myself. I can't seem to delegate my fic writing. And also, all that kink browsing has left me with about 50 new bunnies. All of them smutty. Way to go me... EDIT: I completely forgot to write about my epic new year's dream! I dreamt that I had an appointment with Colin Morgan, I think it might have been for an interview. It was at Pierrefonds and it was (for some odd reason) cold as fuck. So I fled into a small, weird coffeshop/bakery and drank something hot while I waited. Suddenly Colin and Bradley came rushing by outside the window, still in costume. There was still a while until my appointment, so I didn't do anything. I just sat there, content watching them chatter away. Colin spotted me, however, and beckoned me out. And smiled at me in a way that made me go completely jelly-legged. He told me to hurry up and come along, because for some reason, he didn't have time for a proper meeting, so it would have to be done on the fly. When he noticed I was completely underdressed for the cold, he gave me this weird cloak thingy of Merlin's, because he was wearing a jacket underneath. So there I was, half running down the street with Colin Morgan and Bradley James. Then the dream turned even more weird, so I'm not getting into that, since the Merlin contents get kinda weak after that. Basically the only Merlin element left was Pierrefonds. Bah. And here I was having such a good time. And awwww... Colin. Giving me your cloak. You adorable gentleman, you. :oD | |
